We remain committed to bringing more books, authors, and literary events to the Washington region and plan to announce some other initiatives soon. The flagship location of Busboys & Poets is located in the historic U Street neighborhood, and combines a restaurant, bookstore, and performance space (the Langston Hughes Room). This experience underscored for us the interest that many have in seeing more bookstores in a city that loves to read.

Our venture with Busboys represented P&P’s first foray into retail locations beyond the main bookstore on Connecticut Avenue NW. All P&P events at Busboys currently on the calendar will proceed as scheduled, and we encourage everyone to take a look at what’s coming up. All P&P memberships purchased at any of the Busboys locations will still be honored at the main store and on P&P’s website or can be refunded on a pro-rated basis. We’d like to thank the many customers who have shopped at P&P’s Busboys locations and helped make them the success they are today. When people ask me for restaurant recommendations in Washington D.C., Busboys and Poets is usually my first suggestion because it has a perfect trifecta of. This means that P&P will be phasing out its involvement with Busboys. Now Busboys and Poets has decided to expand its book operations and move toward staffing and running its own bookstores at all locations over the next few weeks.

We’re grateful to Andy Shallal, owner of Busboys and Poets, for suggesting this innovative partnership and for giving space to books and authors in his restaurants, believing as we do in the power of literature to enliven, educate, and enrich peoples’ lives. In addition to expanding the selection of books at these Busboys venues, we’ve hosted a wide range of authors there. Busboys and Poets is a community where racial and cultural connections are consciously uplifted a place to take a deliberate pause and feed your mind, body and soul a space for art, culture and politics to intentionally collide we believe that by creating such a space we can inspire social change and begin to transform our community and the world. The book spaces that we’ve been operating in the Busboys located at 14 th and V Streets NW, 5 th and K Streets NW, and Takoma reflect the literary vibrancy of those neighborhoods and have been meaningful ventures for P&P. businesses deeply committed to building community and promoting public discussion of ideas, cultural issues, and current events. We eagerly accepted, embarking on what turned out to be a great collaboration between two D.C.

In late 2014, Politics and Prose was invited to manage the book sections at several of the Busboys and Poets restaurants in the Washington area.
